"What is fascinating about this project is the perspective of a new collectivism deriving from criticism against the globalization of rural areas. To the objection raised by the city and by the land-owner, whereby the project cannot be carried out in a short term, although its underpinning intelligent concept is appreciated, we reply that the guiding principles of the project formulate a new foundation for a future development, as is the case with the WA12 project in Waidhofen. Hence, the project is not so much a proposal for a short-term development strategy, but rather a long-term re-orientation of planning conditions. One part of the jury appreciated this approach explicitly, criticizing various reservations regarding productive proposals, e.g. against the spatialization of the project, which instead of being considered as a useful alternative solution and as a reaction to a new vision of coexistence, is perceived as a diagrammatical criticism. The square building has mutated to become an evolutionary typological model of debate: from a mega structure with a truck driver meeting point, a motorway service area, shops and hotels to a macro square bus stop. However, the design remains too schematic to honor the promise of a new coexistence. The jury appreciates the approach that the project is the only one which explores several ways of how to market the rural areas, and hence is a clear and committed contribution to the Europan theme of “European urbanity”."

"Faszinierend an diesem Projekt ist der Horizont einer neuen Kollektivität, die sich aus einer Kritik an der Globalisierung des ruralen Raums heraus entwickelt. Den von der Stadt und vom Grundstücksbesitzer vorgebrachten Einwänden, das Projekt lasse sich totz aller Wertschätzung des intellektuellen Konzepts kurzfristig nicht umsetzen, wird entgegengehalten, dass die vom Projekt vorgebrachten Grundprinzipien eine neue Grundlage für die zukünftige Entwicklung formulieren, ähnlich wie das Projekt WA08 in Waidhofen. Daher schlägt dieses Projekt weniger eine kurzfristige Entwicklungsstrategie als eine längerfristige Neuorientierung von Planungsprämissen. Ein Teil der Jury würdigt diesen Ansatz nachdrücklich, kritisiert aber gleichzeitig das Überwiegen kritischer Kommentare gegenüber produktiven Vorschlägen: so wird die Verräumlichung des Projektes hier eher als diagrammatische Kritik, denn als qualitativ hochwertige Alternativlösung mit neuen Visionen des Zusammenlebens aufgefasst. Der mutierte Vierkanter als durchgehend typologisches Medium der Auseinandersetzung – von einer Megastruktur mit Truckertreff, Autobahnraststätte, Gewerbe, Hotelnutzung bis zum Makro-Vierkanter einer Bushaltestelle – bleibt im Entwurf allzu schematisch, um das Versprechen einer neuen Koexistenz einzulösen. Dennoch würdigt die Jury den Ansatz, dass das Projekt als einziges eine vielschichtige Untersuchung der Vermarktung des ruralen Raum vornimmt und damit explizit und engagiert zum Europan-Thema der „europäischen urbanität“ Stellung bezieht."
