"The project succeeded in re-identifying sprawl as shaping a center – in the form of an orthogonal, open setting which inscribes itself strategically and in a delicate manner in the existing layout of buildings and their open plan. The programs arranged around a square, the activated wall of the graveyard and transformation of the open plan, i.e. its geometrization, create a new convincing town square for Lauterach.

However, it is noted that the atrium type of the old people’s home is too introverted, suggesting an enclave in a quiet situation already dropped back from the B190. The new square would suggest here an opening-up and active integration of old people, which would better correspond to the role old people play today.

It has also been criticized that the project has neglected all other tasks of the competition, above all “Lutz” and “Alter Markt”. Replacing Lutz with a housing development seems problematic and rather unrealistic."

"Dem Projekt gelingt eine Re-Identifikation des Sprawls in der „Zentrumsgestaltung“: ein orthogonales, offen gruppiertes Ensemble schreibt sich strategisch und sensibel zugleich in die bestehende Baustruktur und deren offene Bauweise ein. Die um einen Platz angeordneten Programme, die aktivierte Friedhofsmauer und die Transformation der offenen Bauweise - Geometrisierung - generieren überzeugend den neuen „Town-Square“ Lauterachs.

Kritisch wird angemerkt, dass der Atriumtypus des Seniorenzentrums unnötig introvertiert sei und eine Enklave an einer ohnehin von der B190 abgesetzten, beruhigten Lage vorschlägt. Hier würde der neue Platz gerade ein Konzept der Öffnung und aktiven Integration erlauben, was der heutigen Rolle der SeniorInnen viel mehr entsprechen würde.

Weiter wird kritisiert, dass das Projekt alle anderen Bereiche der Wettbewerbsaufgabe - insbesondere Lutz und Alter Markt - nicht zufriedenstellend behandelt: die Kompensation von Lutz als Wohnbauprojekt ist äußerst problematisch und unrealistisch."
