Until today the large site has constituted an enclave that is completely walled off from its surroundings. The opportunity for change is driven by the commitment of the site owner which overlaps with an ambitious district development plan (“WOW!”), creating a unique background for the injection of new programs in abandoned industrial areas.
Being located at the north-western fringe of this archipelago-like-development, the island of the site will definitely contribute to the overall aim of intensifying the now fragmented structures of Vienna’s suburban south.
Using housing as program, the existing enclave will be converted to an examplary pilot project that redefines housing within the diversity of comtemporary living models.
Above all, the tension between urban impacts and private desires will drive the ambitious goal of site owner and city: a housing-manifesto for new intensities..
